This popular bass effect adds a deep note one octave below the note you're playing for a huge, stadium-filling tone. Compare this new MXR Bass Octave to ANY unit on the market (even the European models), and you'll be pleasantly surprised. Great Octave

This octave is a great octave. It gives that great lower octave sound that fills out your bass tone to a beefy sounding massive low end. Not only can you add a low octave sound, you can make it the only sound you hear. It's great that I don't have to de-tune my bass to play a song in drop d. Bottom line (haha get it?) this octave pedal is defenately worth the cash.

Good for solos

It's telling that the audio demo for this pedal features basically all high notes. There is a reason. Its because this pedal doesn't "track" low notes well at all. Start playing notes on the low E string and the ocatver can't keep up. Its good if you use it for a solo spot bnut for adding more bottom to a bass? I think not. Save your money and go for the Ampeg or Ashdown octaver. Their worth the money.

Not useful

I bought one of these used and played around with it at home, but I never did play it out. It really only works reliably in the upper range of the bass and not at all below low A. In the mid range the low ocatve does this wierd "there/not there" thing. I guess this is called "tracking," which the M88 does very poorly. The Behringer "ultrabass" effect on my v-amp "tracks" much more reliably (Behringer should make an ultrabass pedel). Anyway, I sold the M88 on ebay for a little more than I paid for it, so no harm done. If you're a real musician, this isn't going to do anything for you. I suppose if you want a useless toy to play around with or are looking for a piece of junk to fill out your Christmas wish list, this will do fine.

Way to make some mud

I was all ready to bust this pedal out and when I started playing through it everything just went muddy. Anytime you really try and turn the pedal loose it has a delay to the octave and it's not smooth very rough.

Nice for tone

I've had this pedal for about 6 months now. It's really helped me get the tone I was looking for. I wanted low end precision and clarity, while still being low. Keeping the tone on the bass pretty trebly, then putting this pedal under it gives me what I need. It's not amazing on the lowest 2 strings (B and E on my 5 string), but you can really hear it when you move up the neck. Overall, this is a solid pedal that can really help with your tone.
