Disapointed in quality

I've had the Marshall MB421 Bass Combo Amp for 1 1/2 years along with the Marshall MBC115 extension cabinet. My plan was for a nice combo amp for practice and a 1x5 sub for jamming with friends. I like the tone but I've had nothing but problems with this amp. In my opinion, this amp sounds great (when it works), particularly combining the modern and classic channels. It has a nice punchy, clear tone and enough volume for a band setting. It's been in for warranty service twice for the same problem and it still isn't working right. The sound will cut out and the volume goes up and down and eventually goes silent. I took it to the store I bought it from and they tested it and it failed for them. They took it to the regional Marshall warranty service center here in Grand Rapids MI. It took a month to repair. They said it was a bad solder joint on the speaker. A few months later it started doing it again. This time it took three weeks to repair and they said it was a bad send and receive jack. The amp has just come back from warranty service, it's scuffed, scratched and dirty and now has a loud buzz even with nothing is plugged into it. I've had lot's of other amps over the years. My last bass head was a Peavey Mark IV that I dragged all over the country. I played night after night with that amp and it never failed. This amp is well cared for and kept in new condition. I'm 47 and I don't play in a professional band anymore. It mostly sits in my living room and has only been taken to jam at a friends house a few times. I will probably have pay to get it fixed by an independent repairman. I wouldn't buy one again.

Have had for about a year. Had absoulutely no problems. Opened it up just for the heck to look. Everything clean neat and well layed out. Use with LTD (active) and Fender Jazz (Passive). Works well with either. Origninally use tube side but now have found blending channels gives me the best of both worlds. Sometimes use a behringer BB410 with it (bottom from hell). Sometimes add a Peavey Black Widow 15. (more growl). The bass amp I have looked for years that I could afford.

Great bass amp!

This is a very good amp! The versatility is awesome - you can get ANY sound you want. There´s the kidney-shaking boom and the glassy treble. After three months I am still exploring the knobs and switches. The CD input is well balanced and a blessing when reherasing on your own. This is a really loud and robust amp at a most competative price. It might very well become a future classic.

Great... for Electric Basses

This sounds excellent and works like a charm... For electric bass. I also own an upright and use it in concerts amplified and I have to say that the amp does offer a good sound for it but not as good as my old amp, a Fender Bassman 150. It just isn't as rich. Otherwise I would recommend this for any genre, from funk to jazz to rock. It is very versatile and will give a great sound to any electric bass but not an upright. Overall I LOVE IT!

DO NOT BUY

I was looking for a combo amp to replace my rack system and this is NOT IT! I was sold by the name and spec sheet, however it is nothing more than a practice amp. When I gigged with it and had to push it, it was nothing but fuzz. It needed to be miked even in a small venue.
