Dragonfly Fretless

I purchased the Dragonfly seven months ago. When I received it, I found that it was unplayable without needed adjustments. The low string rattled and had a horrible sound We adjusted the neck and put in a new nut at the top of the fingerboard and it turned into a wonderful sounding instrument! I play upright bass and some electric bass and I found it a difficult transition. I tended to put to much strength into my right hand finger action, but after a short while, I now get great sounds out of it. Everywhere I play it, people come up to find out what it is and how they can purchase one themselves.

I am very pleased with the Dragonfly, but realize to play it properly and get the right sounds out of it, you need to work at it.

It's not just beautiful

I haven't owned this bass long but it was easy to tell it was great. It took a while to get used to the longer scale but after that it felt verry natural, because it is fretless though you do have to press harder to prevent slight buzz, but without the frets your fingers are free to move. My ony complaints are that the finish had some minor flaws and it was shipped a day late. Also the strings it comes with are not so great I switched them out for nylon flatwound Rotosounds nice!

Slight acoustic projection and bad quality control

This bass is gorgeous and its acoustic fretless tone is incredible! However, the bass is acoustic for its TONE, not for its PROJECTION – do not expect to use it for unamplified rehearsals. I played a rehearsal with a light, strummy, acoustic guitar-player, and afterwards she said she couldn’t hear a thing even though I was facing her from just five feet away. I was disappointed, but I remained optimistic about the plugged sound. I tried it in both bass and acoustic amps with unimpressive results - the pre-amp just does not do the acoustic tone justice. Also, the amplified D and G strings sound distinctly different from the lower pair, and the pre-amp itself had a loose connection. Finally, the bass was packaged haphazardly, and the action was unreasonably high – the latter problem I could have easily fixed, but in light of the poor packaging and the pre-amp issue I feared encountering other quality control issues. I gave it a few more tries, but ultimately I decided to return it.

My wife bought me my Dragonfly 4-String Acoustic-Electric Bass for christmas last year. The only thing I changed on this guitar was the strings only because I preferr GHS strings. I would recommend this guitar to anyone looking for a Acoustic-Electric Bass.

I have owned this bass for roughly a year now and I have nothing to complain about. The only adjustment I had to do was put on some flat wound strings and the thing sounds great. Your able to get a wide nice range of tones, looks flying, and is really easy to play.
