Stung by this Stingray 5!

I've owned my orange Stingray 5 for almost a week now and it is stunning! This is one powerful bass. The two massive pickups along with the 5-way switching makes this one versatile instrument. The B string is one of the best sounding I've heard and I've played many 5-string basses. Another nice feature is the satin smooth finish on the back of the neck. Everything is top notch and well worth every cent! If you want a great US made 5-string bass, look no further.

When looking for a five string, I considered P basses, jazz basses, MMs Bongo, Ibanez's BTB basses and Stingrays. (also a cool custom bass one of my friends made. the low B was absolutely amazing. Probably the best i've ever felt)

Any of those would have left me completely satisfied, as I played all of them at various shops.

However, the Stingray felt the best and played the best and had the most amazing tone. I would recommend this bass to anyone and everyone in every style. She sounds great popped, slapped, with a pick and finger style. Theres nothing this bass can't do.

The picture provided on this website isnt a very cool one. Mine is a tobacco sunburst with a matching headstock. I think it looks much cooler than the picture provided.

A Bongo would have been great too, but I felt it was too bulky.

You cannot regret buying this bass. Its not possible.

A Dynamic Dynamo!!! But so is the OLP

Over the course of a couple months, I logged hours on this thing at the guitar store. This bass is incredibly dynamic. The Low B-String is deeper and richer and more solid than any other bass I've played. This thing has got lower lows and higher highs than anything, and while this bass can do pretty much anything well, the halmark of a Music Man is definitely slap. Oh sure, J-Bass is my favorite overall, and the J-Bass, P-Bass, and in my opinion, T-Bird, all do slap well, but come on, when you think slap, you think music man.

Adding the 5th string allows you get deep down, you can play it aggressive, sure, but it sounds even better when you do the low b gently more for ambience.

Also, adding the 2nd pickup and the 5-way switch adds a lot of tone options that approach J-Bass, P-Bass, and of course, traditional music man, among others. You'll be able to kill a lot of time playing the same runs over and over on different pickup settings, factor in the 3 band EQ, and you'll really lose a lot of time! :-)

Now, why will I not be buying this delightful bass? Because I bought the OLP MM32, the officially licensed budget version of this same bass (think squier, only for music man). Feature wise, the only thing the missing on the OLP is that the OLP has just a standard nut instead of the (compensating?) nut on the MM that makes the strings so steady. The OLP feels like it's made of lesser grade materials, but in a side by side contest, the sonic similarities are uncanny! Apart for the pickups on the MM having thumb rests instead of the blockier OLP pups, they keep right up there. All for $450 instead of $1600. They're both fantastic instruments. The only significant difference between the two is the price.

We had a gig and on the way my ibanez 5-string got stolen on a gas stop, no one knew it was gone at the back of the truck. another bassist on the concert hall offered his Music Man StingRay 5 HH 5-String Bass, after the gig i just fall in love with it. I remember louie johnson promoting his MusicMan 4-string bass.

I bought this bass for recording in the studio. What a great investment. This bass has great tone which can be adjusted to any sound you want using the onboard EQ. Being a Ken Smith player, which is my bass of choice, this Music man bass adds to my arsenal and delivers a great sound.
