The awesomely designed MusicMan StingRay 5 is a 5-string bass guitar that will get you deep and dirty. I got a translucent gold with maple fingerboard, the MM looks awesome and sound as you could expect from a expensive piece of art. I have a Fender Jazz 24 V and they sound very different. the playability of the MM is way better than the Jazz. The beauty of the MM StingRay 5 makes you stare at it without blinking your eyes.

I've been playing bass 4 15 years. All styles metal, rock, jazz, and R&B. The SR5 is the best rock bass there is end of story. Cuts thru the mix with out being harsh. Tone controls and switching can go from county thump to Flea slap to Korn mid empty to Tool growl. I've never had a problem yet in the 5 years I've owned this bass. The 9 volt gets changed one every 6 months of playing 20 hours or so each week. The neck is the easest to adjust that ever seen. I've owned warwicks, Fenders and Ibzs that were all nice basses. They all stay in their cases now.

Yes, the iconic Music Man is a quintessential bass for rock and funk tones. Yes, it sounds good. Yes, it is far too expensive for what you are actually getting.

I was shopping for a Music Man 4-string, playing the MM and other comparable basses. I ended up purchasing the Ibanez ATK700 on clearance. I get all of the MM tone WITHOUT the MM price tag. The ATK700 has been discontinued, but the ATK300 is the exact same bass with a painted finish instead of a dyed finish. Before you purchase a MM, you owe it to yourself to play other basses that will produce the tone you're after. You may be pleasantly surprised like I was.

I'm wasn't after the prestige of owning the infamous Ernie Ball Music Man, but as a session player, I needed the tone. If you are after the tone, and not the prestige of being seen with this bass, then go play the Ibanez ATK300. Close your eyes and listen to the tone. You'll end up buying the Ibanez and saving a lot of money!

if you really play bass and want to record a good track you must have this bass ...you can think maibe "it's so simple, there are no wood alternatives" .. It's a musicman stingray 5 and you don't need more ...

This is by far the best 5 string on the market for the money. Yes you can buy something slightly nicer for $6K out there (and I have in the past). I now own three of these and they will remain my main basses for the forseeable future.
