The trapeze tail piece broke during initial set up before the bass ever reached 440 pitch. The metal holding it was so flimsy it straightened out letting the tailpiece fly. Yes,it can be made to work, but why? It is not worth the effort, by the time I spend a couple of hundred dollars making this one right(new strings, repairs, pickup etc) I can just buy a better quality bass that will last. Oh yes, and there were absolutely no instructions, not even a pencil drawing about how to operate the features on this bass (the company website is a joke, totally useless) Beware my children.....save your hard earned money

This bass is a treat to play. This instrument serves the purpose of conserving space quite well when compared with traditional uprights while it is also a good way for an electric player to expand into the world of the upright.

I inuslated and rotated the Piezo 180 degrees. Both helped the sound to be more 'genuine'. The bridge is pretty tight to attempt arco playing right out of the gate, but certainly workable. This is a much more versatile bass than the Dean Pace 5, even with the deletion of the low B.

The only suggestions to Palatino regarding quality are 1) develop a better case, 2) the tuning keys are a bit soft and 3) a slightly better string will make this bass sing!!!

Fine alternative to Acoustic UB

This sounds close to my plugged in acoustic upright bass, and is even better in terms of even response on all strings. I did a number of mods: 3/4" oak dowell replacing the metal tube end pin; foam damping of tailpiece; Corelli upright strings; strip of 1/8" balsa under the pickup. Mods help get a better tone without unwanted reverb. The manufacturing quality is on the crappy side. I think the fingerboard is actually "ebonized" rather than real ebony, since for weeks my fingers had a bunch of black ink on them after playing. Other musicians in the various jazz groups I play with have overwhelmingly liked the sound it gets. Overall, it's worth it.

Not Acoustic

The bass does not sound anything like an acoustic. You have to really tweak the tone controls to get a halfway decent sound. Also, the tailpiece block came off and had to be reattached. The wood that was revealed under the block was very soft wood. Not appropriate for an instrument.

I'm a bassist teacher, mostly in electric, bass, moved from a 4 to a 5 to a 6 string, and then went fretless till finally an upright, I guess I went back to my roots. a very fun, energetic bass to play with, I practiced on an acoustic upright, and this bass is a real treat!
