Great Bass

I love the sound adjustability and the easy fret board of this bass. It sounds amazing, clean with really clean low's and bright higher tones. I'm also impressed how long it stays in tune with Peavey strings. It's my first 5 string and I appreciate the fast, friendly neck. The only negative is when the two batteries go, they give little or no warning so keep two nine volts in your case. Buy it, you will love it.

I have had this bass for almost a year and I must say it beats any that I was looking at when I got it. I got the quilt top tiger eye & it looks nothing like the picture here, if you want to know what it really looks like take a gander at the peavy cirrus that is over 2000. I have no idea how this beast ofa bass was so cheap but the tonal quality is top of the line & the neck is thin so it plays incredbly well. The pick-ups sound amazing even through poor quality amps with bugdet cables so you know its a good deal. The 3 band eq is also very helpful in getting the tone you want when used with your amp's settings. This is one bass that will never need to be replaced.

Best bass I've ever played

This bass is all around the best bass I've ever played. It is relatively cheap and it has great tone. The action is almost perfect when you get it and it doesn't take long to set it to your standards. True, it takes a little while to get used to the bridge, but it's worth it. It has a wide range of tones and sounds. I've had this bass for a few months and it rarely goes out of tune. Surprisingly, it's light and doesn't wear you out. overall, this bass is amazing and I wouldn't trade it for anything. It made me love peavey

Good for a learning bassist

I've owned this bass for over a year now, and I absolutely love it. I am a beginning bassist, having not taken any formal lessons (learning through reading and Internet sites, etc.)

This is the second bass I have owned.

Compared to my first bass (Ibanez IJXB190 pack), this is an absolute masterpiece.

I spent a good deal of time trying out a number of basses at the local music shop, and I fell in love with this Peavey 5 string Cirrus BXP.

The neck is the perfect width for my hands (average sized) to be able to fret comfortably on all the strings - it's not much wider than my 4-string Ibanez.

Fretting on the neck is easy since the string tension is very light.

Straight out of the box the bass was adjusted pretty well, and after about an hour of fine-tuning the intonation it plays almost perfectly in tune across all 24 frets (something my first bass couldn't even do over 12 frets). It was also in tune out of the box, and stays tuned even on the B string (which are real easy to lose tuning if the gears are even slightly loose).

The back of the neck and the body are sanded as smoothly as silk. I got the natural finish version of this bass and the natural finish really makes a big difference for being able to slide your hand up and down the neck smoothly.

I never realized how high the action on my first bass was until I got this one; even with the action lowered all the way on the Ibanez, it was really high. This Peavey has great low action and the string tension is just perfect such that it's easy to fret and play. Spacing between strings is very good for a 5 string, and gives plenty of room while not leaving your fingers floating out in empty space looking for the next string.

Overall the construction is really nice. The only concerns I have with this bass are as follows:

1) The bridge design is real strange. Instead of having the saddles attached to a screw system where you adjust their position with an allen key, the saddles are moved manually; you loosen them from the bridge with an allen key and then use your fingers to slide their positioning up or down the bridge to adjust intonation. It's not the best design ever, but it works once you get used to it.

2) The battery connector for the two 9 volt batteries inside the body of the bass (for the active pickups) feel a bit flimsy; one of the connectors doesn't "snap" onto the battery like it should, and the wires have to be bent sharply to fit the batteries into the alcove.

3) I'm not sure if the connector for the guitar audio cable is stainless or not. Build up of any kind of oxidation would lead to sound problems, and it definitely doesn't look like the socket in the bass is gold plated. I get crackling any time my audio cable moves in the socket, but I'm not sure if it's from the cable or the socket.

The low B string has great growl and sounds amazing for rock and grunge style sounds, while all the other strings are versatile enough to be appropriate for different play styles.

Overall, I really enjoy and recommend this bass. It's a great value for the construction quality, and it sounds great; the tone is very clear, and the sustain is impressive on the lower frets (it gets a bit less impressive on the higher frets, but I am led to understand that this is normal).

Awesome bass! I traded a Yamaha five string for it and I couldn't be happier. The sustain is incredible and it has the nice rich tone I was looking for. I've played rigs that cost twice as much but didn't come near the tone and playability as this one. Only problem was a loose cord connector. The factory strings were terrible but once replaced I was in love. I matched it with a Crate kt100 amp and the results were fantistic. I highly recommend this bass for anyone looking for a superb guitar at a great price.
