The Rickenbacker 4001C64S C Series Electric Bass Guitar is a re-creation of Paul McCartney's original 4001S bass as it looks now after several decades of modifications. Reshaped body for even greater playing comfort, zero-fret rosewood fingerboard for more accurate intonation and easier action, 1960s style toaster-top bass pickup, and enhanced tailpiece make this Rickenbacker a consummate gigging axe for the discerning professional. Reverse headstock imparts that cool lefty look even on right-handed instruments. Thin satin sealer-only finish protects the natural maple body and neck. Rickenbacker includes a hardshell case with your 4001C64S bass.

Rickenbacker 4001C64S C Series Electric Bass Guitar Features:

  • Eastern rock maple body and neck
  • Reverse neck and headstock
  • Rosewood zero fret finger board
  • Dual truss rod
  • Restyled body
  • Horseshoe treble

Most versatile bass on the market

Sorry - mine's one of the old 'uns (1978). If you want a significant bit of rock history and have maybe pined after a Ric 4001 for while, buy one now.

If the new ones are anything like the old, look for a slender neck, well-balanced neck/body configuration, and an unbelievably controlable/configurable sound, this is the beast for you.

I use the Ric-o-sound features (though I don't have the box) and have biamped the thing in various situations. You get to be solo/trebley and bottom-grabbing at the same time. No better situation for a rhythm section player who likes to break out now and then with solos.

It's a georgeous thing, which is only a fraction of its appeal. Strap it on, and watch audience members drool. It's part of our collective experience.

First let me say that I became a Ric bass fan by watching Paul Mac play this bass with Wings in the 70's and by shaving off the horns and sanding it down gave it his own look. I could not believe that Ric made a version of this. Im not to crazy about the reverse head stock. I own three 4000 series basses and this one is my favorite. I play rock, jazz and funk with this bad boy. If you like Ric, this one is to me the holy grail of the 4000 collection.

Ric lovers dream bass

I owned several 4001 basses by Rickenbacker and I have to tell you I gave them all up to purchase this one. It is the essence of the classic rock bass with out all the fancy colors and trimming and its just awesome to look at onstage. The sound is great, punchy rock bass player style.

Great for studio work

I can't say anything bad about this bass. I do session work in Nashville and have used Fenders and Laklands. This is a must have for the studio. I love the sound of the flatwounds on it. Total historically accurate sound. Not the new thin Rickenbacker 4003 sound.

Nostalgic..yes – but it is for real

This is a very nice instrument. The entire guitar is smooth and feels very comfortable, especially the neck. The sound in comparison to a 4001/3 has a bit more warmth and punch. The frets have a lower profile on the neck which brings the strings closer so it is very playable. Is it worth the extra $1000+ over a 4003? In my opinion, this should probably be your second RIC after you own a 4003 and the extra money this bass costs is not going to hurt too much. It’s a great instrument, but I think the 4003 would serve most players well. Let your 4003 take the road dings and save this one for your home or studio.
