Sounds SWEET, Runs Hot

As a bass player, I am always in the search for the ultimate 'bass tone' from my gear. Of course, this changes everytime I play - but regardless. Recorded in NYC with this guy, and the tracks sounded PHAT. Full bass tones with just the perfect amount of grind. Loved it so much, I went and bought one for gigging. Halfway through my first practice, she temp'd out and shutoff. After a month of this I gave up and sold it. Synopsis: AWESOME recording amp, SUCKY live amp.

I love this head, been playing with it for about 5 years now with no issues. What more could you want from a bass head? 900 watts of killer tone! Dual eq is nice for switching styles on the fly. Limiter helps from popping speakers if your not running through a good enough cab. I'm running through David Eden 4x12 dual ported cab with Cort Curbow 5 string bass. Plans to add dual 15" or single 18" cab for a super low end and to take advantage of the built in crossover! Get one, you won't regret it!

I just bought an SWR SM-500. It sounds amazing. I thought I had found my ideal amplifier. I rehearsed with it once. The next time I used it at a show, it cut out twenty minutes in to the set due to excessive heat. I was lucky enough to have a back up, but it took about five minutes to reset itself before it would power back on. There is nothing worse that losing power half way in to a song with hundreds of people staring at you. I will sadly be returning it. I loved the sound, but it simply isn't well engineered from a cooling standpoint.

SWR SM-900 BASS HEAD

This monster has always been my favorite!I actualy prefered it in full range stereo,as opposed to bi-amped,with a Big Ben 18,and aJr.2-10.I believe you could plug a log into this setup, and still pull an alright tone, but when I plugged my StingRay-5 into it,the whole band got a little weak in the knees!!!My rack took about a 4 foot fall, and I was sure this amp was HIT,but when I took the top off,all that I had to do was resolder the contact points on one capasitor.I really liked the feature where you can set-up two seperate, foot switchable EQs,thats great for switching basses. With all the patching thats possible with this amp it is truly a gearheads dream come true!Bravo SWR!

Didn't do it for me.

I took it home and plugged it into 2 15" speaker cabs from Kustom, played with my Spector and got nothing. Both active and passive. I plugged into my Kustom and got excellent sound. This didn't get loud in the store, but I didn't turn it up. Tone was great, but I'm so disappointed because SWR is so nice.
