Good for a beginer...

The Squier P-bass special is a good bass, for a beginer. I like the over all feel of it, but the pickups are a bit weak. My suggestion is that if you like the p-bass go for it, otherwise save the extra and buy a jazz bass.

i plated all of squires basses and found the only one i liked was the right hander 5 string p i can play with both hands the same so i can play lefty and rights squires frets are very oddly placed and is uncomfortable and it is not a soild guitar

the guitars are ok but bass are not i say save up an extra couple hundred dollars and get your self a mexican fender i bought one for my son and it plays fantastic

and if you really want somthing nice go get a 1979 rickenbacker 4001 i own one and i love it plays great!

thanks and hope this helps

Getting it in tune would have been nice

This review is not so much about the instrument, which I have been given every reason to believe is a quality piece of merchandise, as it is about the state in which it arrived on my porch today.

So I just got my lefty Standard P Bass Special today, only to find that it was WAY out of tune. So I go about tuning it, which goes pretty easy. Except the A string. That went straight from D to E, without even slowing down at A. It was almost as if it were a mailman doing his rounds, seeing a house with its yard swarming with slavering pitbulls, saying to himself "Screw THAT noise," and skipped right over it with nary a second thought. So that was cause for some aggravation. Then the string snaps, and me without a spare. So not untill I get a new string I can't play my new bass. (Well, since I'm just starting out I can't play it ANYWAY, but you get my meaning.)

The moral of this story? If you want this bass, by all means buy it. But be ready to do some serious tuning once you get it. (Unless mine was a fluke, in which case I have the absolute worst luck ever, since I always seem to get the busted ones.)

Squier Lefty P-Bass Special

A very solid bass and terrific value. I was hesitant to order an Asian made instrument, but I figured a Fender-styled bass at 1/4th the price was worth a try. I can find no fit & finish flaws, and the construction is solid (as befits a Fender design). Not fancy as far as features, but if you want to at least try a Fender at a fraction of the price, this is the way to go. I like the concept of the smaller P-bass body with thinner J-bass neck, not to mention the interesting combo of both P and J pickups. FYI -- download and print the Fender Owners Manual for great set-up instructions, and I also recommend the Musicians Friend bass case in tweed with red lining. Very nice for the price!

This bass is well bluit and can take alot of damage. It is a good starter bass with the strings so close to the fretboard, but at sometimes it can just get you frustrated, but overall good bass.
