One of the best today

I've only been playing since late May 2007, but I think I have my fair share of opinions on this baby. In my opinion, this was one of the best purchases I made this year. I needed a secondary bass to go along my Squier Affinity P-Bass, and I eventually settled on this since I was on a budget. I strongly think I made the right choice in this one. Now while the features are simple and straight forward, the two volume knobs on this bass really make a difference on the sound (with respects to the tone knob), maybe more on actual Fenders, but I've yet to try a Fender Jazz Bass. Playability is just amazing, although the neck adjustment gave me a problem for a while until I found the right position for me, no matter how long it took. Neck is fast and just beautiful, maybe a little too good, which is nowhere near a bad thing. The pickups that came along really give out that punchy sound and beautiful jazz bass tone that one may be looking for. I've already tried it with three sets of strings, stock roundwound strings, nylon filament roundwound strings, and at the moment flatwound steel strings. The stock strings were good but the roughness really gave me a lot of hard times, so I switched to the filament strings, which were smooth and just awesome to play with (not to mention very punchy if you wanna slap and pop). Only issue with the filament strings was that the pickups couldn't get enough punch from the sound, which resulted in a very mellow, muddy sound, which isn't bad but not what I'm looking for. Slapped a set of flats and I'm in Heaven with this bass. The pickups and the soft maple body really catch the overall tone that this thing could offer and I really couldn't be any happier. Yes, it may only be a secondary to my faithful Affinity P-Bass, but sometimes this thing can actually outdo a P-Bass whenever needed. Overall, I'd say you should get yourself one and from a personal standpoint, slap a set of flats on it and be amazed.

I've bought this bass mainly because I needed a "cheap" bass for rehearsal and handbagging, but being capable of delivering enough sound. Before playing it, I was not so convinced, nevertheless, as soon I've played it, I've started to love it. Building is solid, maple body with thick translucid finish and satin finish in the neck are great. Stetically, this bass looks great with the black blocks and bindings, very similar to the 75 Fender JB. This gear is way beyond the other Squiers I've played or heard. Duncan designed pickups delivers nice tones, from warm, deep, fat basses (Led Zep-like), to bright, ringing high ends, passing through nice growling mid settings. I play on stage with my Ric 4003, and obviously this bass do not reach the features and sound of this beast, but for rehearsals, is a very good option. It don't leave you down with the sound and for its price, is an excelent bargain.

One Of the Best Basses I've Come Across

I've fooled with Fenders, Gibsons and Musicmans since I started playing 12 years ago. I have to say this is one of the greatest basses i've ever used. Squier has really stepped it up, better than my $1000+ Gibson T-bird. I love this bass to death. Ages beautifly. But, its crazy heavy and the action is a little high, other than that. This bass is perfect!

i purchased this bass about 4 months ago and its great! im a drummer in a local band and i have been playing bass for about a year now. i had a crappy crate bass before this product and i will never go back. one of our 2 bassists in our band has a jazz fender standard american bass and this one plays just as well if not better. i have also recorded with this bass in my solo sessions and it also records great. so if your a pro or a person looking at starting bass for a low price, buy this bass.
