The unmistakable vibe of the '70s Precision Tele Bass without the vintage price tag! |
The Squier Vintage Modified Precision Bass TB has the classic '70s-era Tele bass design, complete with thumping low-end tone from the large, Fender-designed humbucking pickup in the neck position. Also has the traditional maple neck with distinctive Tele bass headstock and vintage-style open-back tuners. A gorgeous sunburst finish over the ash veneer top on a slab basswood body and accurate pickguard shape complete the vintage vibe. Other features include a string-through design dual brass-saddle bridge and two-knob pickup control circuit with volume and tone pots.
Players from beginner to intermediate and beyond have done it for years—whether installing hotter pickups, alternate pickguards, or just plain personalizing their instruments with fancy paint jobs, modified means adding new twists to a familiar design.

Hey dorks! (who don't like this instrument) I've got news for you : It's not a jazz bass! So why expect spank and sparkle? Any person who's played more than a year or two can look at this thing and know what it does. I have been playing in a heavy rock pop band with this thing and it does EXACTLY what it's made for : EXTREME LOW END. I have no problem coaxing mids and higher mids and string noise highs with proper EQ and OD. All I needed to do to this beast was lower the poles on the PU and it sang. I bought this because the TB is the ONLY fender I would ever buy since single coils sound like puke. Thanks for bringing it back fender!

Great Bass to Modify

I bought this bass for a project because of the Humbucker and the low price. Out of the box it was nearly unplayable. After shimming the neck .022", adjusting the truss rod and bridge, and dressing a couple frets the thing played like a dream (I like low action). The pickup is Way to dark for my liking - not very articulate: it makes a Gibson Mudbucker seem bright. But I bought this for a project. I added a Gibson TB+ Humbucker midway between the bridge and the neck pup, and I replaced the bridge with a Hipshot String-through. I used the tone pot for the second volume, so there is no tone control now. The end result is amazing: almost any tone I want from Gibson to a Rick is possible just by tweaking the volumes. The action is now as good or better than any of my "expensive" basses, the bass has excellent sustain, and looks great too.
To me this bass now looks, sounds, and plays better than most basses costing $1000+. Out of the box (but with some adjustments) this Squire is well worth the money if you like a very dark tone. But with some modifications, it can be an amazing bass.

I have used this bass in my high school's marching band and I can't say that there aren't better basses out there for the money. This bass is, in my opinion, a one-trick pony. With a pickup like that, the tone is always warm and very suited for old rock (to create a wall of sound), but the placement of the pickup does not allow for a very articulate tone, so I'm constantly having problems cutting through the mix. It also neck dives way more than a bass like this should. I would suggest buying one of the other VM Squier basses instead (namely the VM jazz), unless all you want to do is make a wall of sound.

In a word...... nice. I usually play a Thunderbird but I love the vintage look about this bass. It plays really well and the neck is a dream. I`ve not taken the time to properly set it up yet, but I am looking forward to playing it live. Well done Squire for this great retro bass!

Worst Bass Ever

I have never played a poorer quality bass in my entire life. I picked it up because it looked pretty cool and was something different. This thing sounds and plays worse that any other bass that Ive ever picked up in my life. I play it through an Ampeg SVT4 Pro head and SVT810 cabs and no amount of EQ can help this piece of junk. I'm returning it today. The action is horrible as well. If you want tone, dont buy this bass. Its nothing but muffled muddy crap. The reissue 70's jazz is a MUCH better bass for the money than this one.
