Designed by Ned Steinberger himself, it features the unique U-channel graphite core in a rock maple neck and maple body. Combo head accommodates double-ball and single-ball strings while the unique direct-drive double-ball bridge adds super-fast string changes and tune-it-once tuning stability.

While other guitar manufacturers have been resting on their laurels, Steinberger's been thinking. Witness the strap hook, recessed tool holder and output jack, fold-down leg rest, and phenolic fingerboard that's slick as butter and fast as lightning.

Low-impedance EMG USA bass pickup with internal low-impedance preamp and piezo bridge extends the range on both ends for earth-moving lows and phenomenal transients for slap-style playing.

This custom version also features a flamed maple top and trans finish.

I purchased the Steinberger Synapse XS-1FPA 4-String Bass(BLUE) If you haven't played or purchased one of these basses yet, you will. If you play this bass once you will start collecting your change and sell some gear to get one of your own. Thats what I did. This bass will make you a better faster cleaner bass player. This bass delivers clean clear solid notes with sustain unlike anything I have ever played. Not one crackle all the way up the neck. I have never played on a neck like this. This is the best bass guitar I have ever owned. And I own many. All high end. The peizo in the bridge gives me many more tone options than my other basses. The EMG covers the booming lows all bass players look for. These two features combined give me everything I need. Every time I reach down to find a tone I never hit a dead end. Very simple to operate. Overall the sound is clear as a bell. Opinion: Spend the extra money and get the blue, red or yellow. I feel honored to own this instrument. Thanks Mr. Steinberger

I've had this bass for a week now, and I'm a little disappointed with the way it is put together. For the money, I'd definitely expect better drilled screw holes and a better battery compartment.

It sounds different than the old Steinbergers, but not in a bad way. The bass has a maple body with a graphite truss rod tunnel in the neck. The best I can describe the difference is that this new line sounds less "clinical" than the 80's Steinies. The sustain and edge is still there, at least to my ears.

The piezo bridge pickup adds some really unique character to the sound. Slap sounds great.

You can get the Steinberger bridge system cheaper on a Hohner, but the total package here is pretty good. The headless form factor turns heads and makes it really convenient to carry and play in close quarters.

Nice bass but needs work

I like the sound and the look of the bass but there are several things I would change. I took off that weird strap adapter and istalled my own strap lock where the original steinberger has it. I hat the fact that the bass needs 2 9 volt batteries and if they go out you are SOL. Also it does not have the great steinberger bridge so the intonation is never perfect. I also dont like where the jack is located on the back of the bass, its hard to use with a wireless.

I'm a guitar player who also doubles on bass only now I'm playing bass with a band full time. I used an original Steinberger bass in the mid 80's but couldn't find one now. I decided to give these new ones a try and it's no novelty or gimmick bass - it truly rocks! Incredible gain, response and tone, as well as being easy on the back, As a bonus, it's also very stable as far as tuning is concerned. It's perfect for playing on small crowded stages where a huge headstock would get in the way. Because it has only one pick-up (plus the piezo), this bass will not deliver a ton of tonal variety, but the few sounds it does have are punchy, detailed, dynamic, and useful for any style of music. I'm going to buy the 5-string version as well.
