Chosen Most Outstanding Design at the 2009 NAMM Show.
The TC Electronic RH450 Bass Amp Head is the company's first full bass rig. With 450W of Class-D power, the RH450 bass amp has the power to run multiple bass speaker cabinets and is especially effective when combined with the RS210 and RS212,
The TC Electronic RH450 amp can run any combination of up to 3 units. This bass amp head's features include an input that accepts passive or active instruments, 4 semi-parametric tone controls with light rings around each knob that make your settings visible even on dark stages, and with tone centers that can be adjusted. Other features include an integrated tuner that is precise and extremely easy to use. 3 user-memory locations let you store your favorite setups. A TubeTone circuit affects both the preamp and the output for realistic tube-amp character. SpectraComp technology provides multi-band compression that is even across all strings. I/O is comprehensive and includes an AES/EBU connection. Presets, Mute, and Tuner can be selected remotely with the RC4 floor controller sold separately.
Flexible tone control
The RH450 bass amp head has straightforward controls like you know them from traditional amps, voiced to give you plenty of tweaking options to nail the perfect tone. Chances are these are all you're going to need. However, if you're not fully satisfied with the default frequency areas, fear not—RH450 gives you the option to change the focus of each of the tone controls.
The nerdy term for this feature is semi-parametric bands, and it tweaks the "hidden parameters" to pinpoint a frequency you either want to remove or boost for each tone control and then store the settings.
TubeTone
Most transistor designs have tried to replicate tube sound using 1 small preamp tube, but they generally fail as they don't take into account the crucial characteristics of the full preamp and power amp sections—both of which are essential to the sound. TubeTone emulates all characteristics to deliver the full tube sound.
SpectraComp
A regular compressor tends to be dominated by the low string, but the RH450's SpectraComp technology produces multi-band compression that evens out the compression across all strings.
Onboard user memory banks
You might not use presets, but maybe you've never had the chance. Anyone who's used different basses on stage knows that a few user memories on your amp would be welcome. With the RH450 you can easily switch between, for example, your 4- and 5-string. Just plug in the bass and use the car-radio-style Store and Recall controls to easily switch between presets for your chosen model. There are 3 bass user memories, remote control access via the RC4 Control (sold separately), and visual indicators for Mute and the Tuner.

Rehearsal inputs
Playing any instrument on its own can be a little dull, but everyone needs time to practice, which is why RH450 has rehearsal inputs. This rear panel-mounted feature allows you to plug in your iPod, phone, computer or MP3 player via the supplied mini-jack to RCA cable adapter for easy practicing and playing along with recorded music. The headphone amp is a high quality model taken straight from TC Electronic's Studio Konnekt 48 and includes a speaker filter on the bass signal.
The RH450 from TC Electronic is built for bass players by bass players and draws upon decades of cutting-edge amp design and signal processing experience. The result is the RH450—the bass innovation that sets a new standard in excellence in bass amplification.

I just finished putting the RH450 through its paces in my professional studio environment. I have to say that it has great sound, excellent features, and plenty of power (more than you would expect from its conservative 450w rating). I am also a fan of the RS210 cab I recorded with. Thus, this unit receives my highest possible recommendation.

this is the best amp i have ever played off of. the portability is amazing and the sound is incredible. i bought it with the 2x10 cab and foot pedal. the 3 memory option is great for playing in different styles with different instruments. I use it with a 5 string, a fretless, and an acoustic and the amp delivers with all of them. you get great clean tone, amazing pops and thumps, and amazing tube tone.
if you are interested in portability and versitility with an all around good sound. and if you buy this amp the foot pedal is worth it. and the onboard tuner and pedal tuner is perfect for changing tunings and improving accuracy for the fretless.

this is in fact my first review on this site. The reson why I decided to take the step was to help out this fabulous amp's reputation. I bought this amp despite the lacking amount of reviews. I drove two hours to simply hear it, and MAN! it was fantastic. I didn't even plan on buying it that day, but after hearing it I was loading it up into my car that very day. Let me tell you I quickly learned one of the huge plus's of this product: its weight. Having to lug it as well as the matching 2X10 cab over three blocks to my car would have been impossible if it wasn't so light. Don't get me wrong, its still not a feather, but the weight is much appreciated.
When I got it home and set it up(which was extremely simple I might add) I got to fully shape the tone I wanted. I love the tube simulator even though I hardly ever use it. Just to clarify, theres nothing wrong with it, in fact its quite impressive, however I perfer a clean tone.
Some of the other plus's are the always shown tuner, the rewritable presets (GREAT feature I must say), the HUGE sound, and the quality overall. I also like the mp3 player adapter, however I wish I could play it out of my speakers instead of just headphones.
My only complaint, besides the headphones issue, is that the on/off switch is in the back. For my home setup this is an inconvenience.
Did I mention this thing is loud? I only need to crank this thing to 9 o'clock to have my windows and walls shaking. My fan light has shaken so much its unscrewed itself on many occasions.
I played a warwick, Steinberger, and a Music Man through this bass and each sounded simply amazing. The steinberger is a 5 string fretless, so anyone with concerns regarding either one should rest assure, the amp works perfectly with them.
Honestly, stop reading my review and buy this! I played through almost every amp head/cab combination out there and this is by far my favorite. I wouldn't replace it if you offered me anything I wanted free of charge.
BUY THIS! you'll certainly not regret it

TC Electronic RH450 Bass Amp Head

First off, here is a list of what I require from a bass rig.
1. Sound
2. Portability
3. Value
4. Durability
This is definately the best sounding amp I have ever used. Plugged in my jazz-bass, set the level, turned it up about half-way and WOW! EQ set flat–no comp. or tubetone. I used this setting most of the night. Set this as pre-set #1. For preset #2, I dialed in some “tubetone” (9 o’clock) and some “spectracomp” (10 o’clock) and slightly boosted 800hz on the EQ….instant SVT!
For preset #3…Slight boost in the lows, low-mids “flat” slightly cut high-mids and boosted the highs a little bit—add compression (10 o’clock) and it’s “Slap-City”.
I had the tweeters on both the 2×12 and the 2×10 half-way up. I’m not a tweeter kind of guy usually, but these are sweet. Since they are “coaxial” with the top speaker of each cab–they are not harsh sounding at all. (I usually shut the tweeter off, or barely have it on with other cabs)
The footswitch is a nice addition.
the mute switch also mutes the DI for silent tuning (and you don’t have to turn your back on the audience). So–very versitile, GREAT sounding amp.
The DI is super sounding also. The sound-man had me “off” most of the night in the medium sized venue. The RH450 was pleny loud on its own at less than half volumn. I had absolutey no problem hearing with the cabs stacked verticaly…This was going up against a VOX AC30–A Marshall 4×12 and drums (all miced through through P.A.)
Portability–The head goes withoput saying. The heaviest piece is the 2×12, and at under 50 lbs., my wife unloaded and carried it in without breaking a sweat.
Value–To match this amp you would have to purchase a rack tuner, 3 band compressor (pricey),, A TC tube effect, an EQ, a GOOD DI, arack to put it all in, and cables to hook it all up. As well as buying a class D light-weight amp head. The Value is there. The EQ is the best I have used-using the “shift” button you can set the center frequency of any of the EQ knobs wherever you want. This feature does away with all of the “shift” knobs and switched. Durability–We will have to wait and see on this one. All of the components are extremely well-made and just look & feel “quality” all around.
I’m really tired of maintaining and lugging around tube amps & heavy speakers! As you can probably tell, this amp seems like it was made for my personal style and needs in a bass amp.
I love it, and recommend it highly.
