This thing is one of the best looking basses I've ever seen. I picked it up and plugged it into an Ampeg stack. I expected a killer sound but the fret buzz was so bad there was no way to play it. I've also found the same problem with the $$ 5 string. The same day I played the Corvette Standard Fretless which was perfect. I don't know why people rave over Warwick 5 strings because any of them I've played are terrible with fret buzz and some of the worst playability. It didn't sound all that good either, way overpriced too. The only good thing about this bass is the finish.

I've only had this for a few days, gigged it twice, spent a lotta time on setup, new strings, etc.

It's really hard to get a good setup, and I've been experimenting with the adjustable string spacing cuz the spacing is closer than anything else I play, but something about this ax makes me wanna get it right and make it a keeper. The adjustable nut is also helpful for tuning out the fret klank. Without it, I'm sure I'd have ruined a couple of nuts tweaking this thing.

I think one of the things that makes set up tricky is that even the slightest fret klank gets exaggerated by the massive neck and brass frets. IOW, I hafta do even better setup than typical for other basses.

Even with a 5-string neck built like fence post, the bass is well balanced, and about the same weight as other typical 5-strings. Getting used to a neck that feels almost as thick as it is wide, thaz gonna take time, but I'm sure that massive piece of tree is part of the big sound of this bass.

Mine has the MEC active EQ and I find it easy to get a number of useful tones. The neck PU seems to lack bottom. I have other top shelf basses with the same basic PU config, and they deliver what I expect of a neck PU. This one lacks that heavy deep tone. The MM-type humbucker is splittable, and as good as any OEM PU of this type, maybe better.

You can choose series or parallel for the humbucker, but this has no effect on the neck J-PU. So the more neck PU you dial in, the less effect is heard from ser/par switch. You can also get single coils running neck and bridge, like a J-bass, altho I haven't found that very useful. It's a kinda punky tone. You're running a 'large-pole' SC at the bridge and a 'small-pairs' J-PU at the neck, so the main job of the neck PU seems to be hum cancelling for the fat SC at the bridge.

It's all about the bridge PU, so essentially this is a MM-type bass, and in that genre, it does very well, but so do its competitors, some of which are more affordable by $1000. Each player would hafta decide for themselves whether they're getting something worth the difference. I've only had it several days, so I can say for sure.

OUTSTANDING BASS!!!

Sound: I had been using this bass for about 2 years, and each time I play it, I love it. The sound is crispy, punchy, low end, it’s just awesome. The electronic is very quiet and responds to any change, you can get a wide range of tones. I use XL Strings, gauges; .40 .60 .80 .95 .125, and it sounds like the gods of Olympus. Playability: The FNA Jazzman has a great action; the neck feels a little bit heavy and thick, it took me a while to feel comfortable with it, but as soon as you get familiar with it this bass offers a delighted experience. Quality: This bass it is just beautiful, eye-catching!. Everything it’s perfect in this bass from; electronics, woods, hardware and finishes, the only problem in this bass and in others Warwick’s either, it’s the truss rod, it is a little difficult to set it up. Overall: I was a Kent Smith bass fan, but since I have the FNA Jazzman this became my favorite bass, I really love the Warwick growl, I highly recommend this bass for any serious musician, it worth every penny you’ll spend for.

I've been playing this bass on the road for the last 4 years averaging 8-10 gigs a month and I don't have a single complaint. The tonal options are awesome, everything from a P-bass to a musicman to a Jazz. Tuning holds great. My bass travelled from Copenhagen to Anchorage over two days and when I took it out it was perfectly in tune still! Construction is great and it's a beautiful bass. Always getting compliments on how pretty it is.
