my first 5 string

I have played a 4 string washburn up until now and I wanted to try a cheap but decent 5 string. This was the cheapest 5 string model in my local music store so I plugged it into a Fender 100 Bassman amp and I was slightly disapointed by the sound of the low B string...mabye the action wasnt set right. It did seem extremely low, so low in fact that the B string was dangerousely close to buzzing on the first fret! But other than that no problem until I attempted some slap and pop style stuff...I have larger hands..Im built bigger..but any how I had trouble with the string spacing..I wasnt able to get a proper slap sound..for one thing after my thumb would come down on the string and follow through to the next string, the string I slapped would be muted by my thumb being so close to it...good EQ good sound..great pick ups..just bad for me to try some slap on! =[ Highly recommend for a musician on a tight budget..

I needed a bass for studio work so it had to be versatile. I had a Yamaha RBX775 previously and sold it during a too many guitar moment and regretted it. So... I read the reviews and trusted the Yamaha name and ordered my BB615. I have been playing bass for 35 years, played and owned many. This thing is amazing. It has the Yamaha quality and the sound is exactly what I was looking for. It cuts through every mix and never sounds tubby or muddy. It can sound like a P or Jazz or it can be smooth. With a little distortion you will sound like Les Claypool. As far as the bridge, people say it's cheesy but the sustain and punch are killer so who cares.. it works (same for the tuners, I like em). Fit & finish are as expected from Yamaha, always near perfect. I also does extensive guitar work but I have not picked up a guitar all week. One of the other reviewers was right on, you will look forever in this price range to find this bass. We saved you the trouble.

I went into the local guitar shop looking for a fender of some sort and saw this on the wall. I thought might as well give it a try. I played it through an ampeg and ashdown amp and it sounded incredible through both. When I got it back to my house I plugged her into my peavey max 450 half stack and she sound just as good as she did in the store. It is a very well built and solid bass. I have no complaints. I put some rotosound 665 ld strings on and she just sings out. This bass is no my main bass. I say buy it or suffer looking for the "right" bass.

I'm very pleased with this bass, it is so versitle that you can dial in any sound you want for just about any type of music you can think of. I was a little skeptical at first about buying this bass, because I'm primarly a Fender man, but as soon as I plugged this bass into my Ampeg rig and turned it on my misconception's were gone! It sounded amazing and very LOUD too! Great bass I'd recommend it to anybody.

This is an incredible bass. Tonally diverse and incredibly consistent. This is what a bass should sound like.
