Not Pleased With The Quality

My wife bought me the danelectro dano 63 long scale bass as an early fathers day gift. Once pulled out of the box problems were found. The white tape border was peeling up around the curves and was stained with yellow streaks and one of the screws on the bridge was stripped out a bit. It's a good looking bass and from what other reviews say it sounds good. My hope is that this was just one of very few defective basses that I unfortunately received. Sadly, this tarnished my view of danelectro and will most likely return it and use my money elsewhere.

I have used this bass in my local music store and it sounds really nice. Although I am not a fan of how it looks, it sounds, AND plays AMAZING. A good investment.

Best low-buck bass ever

Got my '63 Longscale in October '08. Fell in love with the look and figured the price made the risk low. I did NOT expect this bass to sound so good. I play through an Ampeg V4-B head and a mix of speaker cabinets depending on the venue. I frequently get comments about how good it sounds and the look. Simple controls (volume / tone / pickup switch) heck, what else do you need?

Quality wise, well...no exotic wood here buddy, the body is some type of plastic and plywood sandwich. Fit and finish are OK. The tone pot nut and jack nut were loose and had to be tightened. Honestly I haven't made any adjustments to it, still playing it the way it came in the box. I want to adjust the neck a bit to lower the action in the upper frets but it's completely playable as is. The neck size works great for me, I have smallish hands.

For bang-for-buck, I haven't seen a better deal anywhere. The snobs that spend thousands dollars on their guitars may not be impressed by looking at it, but when you plug it in to a good amp I rate the tones this bass makes as top notch.

Great Retro Look!

I bought this bass to be my road bass. I just don't want the Line 6 to get beat up. Anyway, this has a great look and is lot lighter than I thought it would be. Has a great tone in all pick up positions. My only real complaint is the action is really high on it and it's not to easy to do a self adjustment. But once I get it to the tech, it'll be fine. A great value for the money, especially if you're in a retro band.
